Burning the outside of the wood chars the softwood between the grain deeper

The charred finish is removed with a stiff brush revealing a darkened shade & emphasized grain depth

The Stain

A custom mixed stain was chosen to help blend the unit with the nearby fireplace masonry

The Finish

Completely finished & assembled with invisible connectors & an adjustable shelf
